Seed Of The Serpent
Finis Jennings Dake says in his Bible commentary: "It was the purpose of Satan and his fallen angels to corrupt the human race and there by do away with pure Adamic stock through whom the seed of the woman would come."1 Satan tried to stop the plan of God for mankind before and after the flood.
1. Dake, Finis Jennings. Dake Annotated Reference Bible - KJV, Lawrenceville: Dake Publishing, 1996. Notes on Genesis. See page 63. Satan’s strong hatred toward the Adamite race first started in the Garden of Eden. Satan, appearing as a serpent, enticed Adam and Eve to question their relationship with God and sin against Him. The serpent deceived Eve and she ate of the forbidden fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and gave the fruit to her husband, and he also ate. Because of the serpent’s beguilement, and Adam and Eve’s disobedience, all were punished. God told Eve she would have difficulty bearing children, and He told Adam the ground would not easily yield food for him because God cursed the ground. The serpent also received a curse. Adam and Eve’s sinful act caused sin to enter the world: "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned" (Romans 5:12). Satan deliberately lured mankind to sin. He did not want them to live a blissful eternal life and rule on earth undisturbed. The Seed Of The Woman God spoke to the serpent and said: "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel" (Genesis 3:15). God saw the need to redeem the Adamite race and provided a remedy. The seed of the woman would defeat the serpent, the Bible says. This seed of the woman eventually came to the world through Jesus Christ, who was born of a virgin. The Bible says Mary conceived a son by the Holy Spirit, and she bore Jesus, a spiritual seed. When Jesus died on the cross for the sin of mankind, this fulfilled God’s words that the woman’s seed would bruise the serpent’s head. "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8b). Jesus’ blood was not carrying the corrupted nature of mankind (the 'adam) because his blood came from God by the Holy Spirit, not the seed of a man. "Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot" (1 Peter 1:18 and 19). The Seed Of The Serpent The seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent are addressed in Genesis 3:15. We just looked at her seed, but who is the seed of the serpent? Some teachings say that the giants and their offspring are the serpent’s seed because of their origins as the descendants of rebellious angels and Adamite women. This is partly true. Giants were the seed of the serpent, but not because they descended from angels, but because they were evil and wicked. The New Testament indicates that anyone who works unrighteousness is of the devil. They don’t have to be giants. The following Scripture explains this: "He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous" (1 John 3:8-12). (Note: It is our higher nature (our spirit man) that does not sin because it is born of incorruptible seed.) Cain was not a giant but he was wicked. His wicked activities connected him with the devil. Judas Iscariot was "the son of perdition" because of his wickedness (John 17:12). But Judas was not a giant. The seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent are spiritual and not necessarily physical. The seed of the woman is Christ. When an individual becomes born again of the Spirit of God, he or she is a child of God. That one is now Christ’s spiritual seed. In contrast, the seed of the serpent represents one who commits wickedness. |
Were All Swepted Away
In The Great Flood Non-Human?
Giants were on the earth during the antediluvian age. The Bible records, "God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. Then God said to Noah, 'The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth' " (Genesis 6:12 and 13 NASV). That He did. A catastrophic flood came and wiped out every living thing on the face of the earth except for those who boarded an ark to escape.
Noah and his family were the human survivors who boarded an ark. Noah was blameless in that time the Bible says. "Tamiym" is the Hebrew term for blameless. It means he was without blemish; he was pure Adamic stock; he was not giant contaminated. Some think all that were swept away in the flood were giants or those contaminated by them. In other words, no normal human beings were caught in the deluge. However, this is not the case. The Bible records regarding the flood in Genesis 6:7, "The Lord said, 'I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.' " "Man" in this passage is the Hebrew term `adam. Giants and their offspring are never referred to in Scripture as Adamites - in other words mankind. This tells us that there were some Adamites that were swept away. Was God cruel for wiping out these Adamites? A good point to make is that Noah was a preacher of righteousness. He must have preached to those around him to get right with God. But evidently they did not listen because only eight Adamites boarded the ark. God wanted all Adamites living at that time to board that ark and be sheltered from the storm. Oh! The love of God! I believe it will be just like this at the end of the age. People will no longer be willing to turn from evil doing. The book of Revelations says that even the holy angels will preach the gospel. God's desire is for all of mankind to turn to Jesus with their whole heart. |
God Will Provide
Supernatural Help
When mankind battles giants or their offspring, the conflicts require supernatural intervention. When Moses and the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness, the Amorite King Sihon and his kingdom came against them. They fought the Israelites and God aided His people by sending hornets against the Amorites. God sent a hail storm when Moses and the Israelites fought the Rephaim giant King Og, and the Amorites with him, when they attacked the Israelites. Joshua’s longest day occurred because God caused the sun to stand still at Gibeon, along with the moon in the valley of Ajalon as Joshua and the Israelites fought a ferocious battle with five Amorite kings. King David also defeated the Jebusites, who were of giant offspring, and the Philistines, who some were of giant offspring, with the supernatural help of God.
God can aid mankind through normal means during physical combat but battles involving giants or their offspring tend to be supernatural in nature (Numbers 21, Joshua 9 and 10, 1 Samuel 17, and 2 Samuel 5). I believe the same Spirit who empowered Moses, Joshua, David, and the other Israelites will empower us. The same Spirit who was upon them and in their midst will be with us, too. God’s Spirit will be with us to war against giants because combating giants is the Lord’s battle. Let us keep in mind these battles have to be handled judicially. |
